Futurology

Design package for a podcast

Futurology is a conversation-driven video series produced by the Berggruen Institute, exploring science, philosophy, and long-term thinking.

Design system, first

Because discovery happens before playback, the brand needed to function first as a visual system, not just a motion package.

We designed a thumbnail-first identity built on a strict triangle grid, editorial typography, and a controlled color framework. This system establishes consistency across episodes while remaining flexible enough to support different guests, topics, and formats. The thumbnails act as the primary brand surface, creating recognition and clarity across algorithm-driven platforms.

Retro Futurism

The visual identity of Futurology is rooted in the retro futurism aesthetic, with typography and design emphasizing clarity, structure, and purpose. Simple geometric forms, restrained color use, and an underlying grid create a system that feels intentional and flexible. This foundation allows the system created and motion to remain minimal and expressive at the same time, supporting clear communication while leaving room for variation and evolution.

Motion as an Extension
of the System

Transitions, titles, and animations follow the same grid logic and pacing rules, reinforcing structure without distracting from the content. The result is a scalable identity that lets ideas lead while the design stays intentional, quiet, and consistent.
